They were star-driven, as opposed to the director/producer driven pictures of the past.

A good number presented romantic stories with appropriate complication for the leading pair, while others followed a more serious, melodramatic route to love.

Films openly catered to the box office and were packed with song, modern dance, and new fashion style.
